Wireless sensors developed by FF-Automation OY can transfer temperature, pressure, switching andother data to control rooms, or other systems. The data can be sent wirelessly to the control room which operates under ControlMan Internet-based service. Any available GSM / TETRA networks may be used to transfer data.
Visual presentation of information collected, reports for analysis can be viewed from any Web browser on any computer, so there is no need for separate control rooms and additional invesments. This will save costs and short overall payback period.
Wireless systems eliminate expensive cabling, they allow free chosing of installation places even in difficult locations, and enables such applications that previously were not economically feasible.
Wireless sensors powered by battery, have, depending on the battery capacity, replacing interval up to 10 years. Sensors core is an intelligent software which is able to manage the device networking and power-saving modes. Information transfer is bidirectional, so the output controls is also possible to apply.
AutoLog Wireless Sensors are based on the 869 MHz radio technology. This band is free of licensing in EU and several other countries. It is defined as the free radiospectrum band, which can be used withoutofficial permits as long as the transmission power does not exceed the permissible value.
Comparatively lower frequency allows a longer operating range and more reliable operation in applications where obstacles (such as buildings, terrain object, etc.) between the measurement sites may provide difficulties.
Wireless sensors can be connected using MODBUS RTU protocol to any data transfer unit, the control room, or a programmable logical controllers (PLC). Also it is possible that measurement data will be transferred to the Internet ControlMan monitoring and control service and such data can be used immediately from any computer with Internet access.
The April issue of PCN Europe features a Product Focus on Plant Networking, in which we show you how wireless can relief process plant pains and introduce you to a gateway that combines monitoring and configuration. Our Industry Special is dedicated to Energy & Water where we take a look at a pulp mill that became a fossil-free energy provider. We also present you with more case studies, technical articles and product news for all areas of the processing industries. Enjoy your reading!
