Based on their patented “linear shuttle” technology, Nitto Kohki have introduced the larger LAM-200 blower to their market leading range of LA series blowers. The eagerly anticipated big brother is born!
Air-blowers are commonly used in wastewater treatment systems, aquatic & pond applications as well as sulphur scrubbing on biogas applications. The “linear shuttle” technology removes the need for troublesome diaphragms and so offers the benefit of much longer lifetimes. Their existing product range offered air flow of 7,2 m³/h at 180mbar (normally 1.8 meter water depth ), whilst their new big brother gives a superior 12m³/h airflow at 200mbar (normally 2 meters water depth). Therefore the new LAM-200 can be used in larger plants that historically were unable to take advantage of Nitto Kohki’s superior “linear shuttle” technology.
The LAM is also an interesting alternative to rotary disc and by-pass channel pumps. With a power consumption of only 220W and whisper-quiet 48dB(A) noise, the new model is an ecological and quiet solution.

Nitto Kohki’s VC0100 is characterised by its suitability for many varied applications. It is compact, lightweight, silent (35dB) and with a performance of 6 l/min at 40mbar, yet with a power consumption of only 6W it is becoming a very attractive solution for OEM’s. Due to its low power consumption it has generated significant interest where low power consumption is important, e.g. in mobile fuel cells, portable sensor technologies, measurement applications and medical technology. In addition to the standard VC0100 being available in different voltages, it is also available as specials: A pressure-only version with an internal air filter simplifying connections and minimising noise: A combined vacuum/pressure version specifically for vacuum applications, and finally if 6W is still too high there is a further power-optimized version with only 3,5 W power consumption!

Based on the popular SP Cupla model which is used globally in high quantities the new successor model SP-A has been developed and already introduced by Asian’s leading quick connecting coupler manufacturer Nitto. The flow rate could be increased by remarkable 64% compared to the previous model. This new increased flow rate sets a new milestone compared to comparable couplers in the market.A higher flow rate means higher productivity – hydraulic cylinders will move faster, die-casts will be cooled earlier. As a consequence the production costs are decreased. Thanks to the newly designed shape of the valve head, the valve returns automatically and smoothly to its original position when disconnected. This structure enhances safety by sealing the flow passage of individual sockets and plugs.SP-A couplers can be used in various applications up to a pressure of 75 bar.The maximum size is 1”. All versions are made in PT female thread. Materials: steel, brass, stainless steel SUS 304.Beside this new model this famous manufacturer offers a broad range of couplers for nearly every application.

New motorized actuator for linear valves GEMÜ has developed a new motorized open/close actuator ...

The valves using this actuator are ideally suited to applications without plant air. At the same time, the operating costs of the motorized actuator are lower than those of a comparable pneumatic actuator or even a solenoid valve. In a pneumatic actuator or a solenoid valve with control function normally closed, the valve must be supplied with compressed air or consumes power the entire time that it is open. The new motorized actuator, with a power consumption of approx. 24 W, is designed so that it only requires power to position the valve. When it has reached the closed or open end position, the integrated limit switch switches the actuator off automatically and holds the valve in position until the next control signal. A seal adjuster can be implemented using the adjustable limit switch of the CLOSED position. The electrical connection is made via M12 connectors.
The actuating speed is between 4-10 mm/sec., depending on the nominal size. The GEMÜ S680 diaphragm valve closes in approx. 0.5 sec. in nominal size DN 15, and for DN 25 in approx. 2 sec. The even closing process noticeably reduces water hammer in comparison to fast closing pneumatic and solenoid valves. The compact actuator is no wider than the valve body and is therefore ideally suited for use in space-saving valve batteries.
The diaphragm valve has two distinct advantages over the solenoid valve: firstly solenoid valves in the sizes up to DN 50 are either directly controlled or servo assisted. Directly controlled valves require very large solenoids for the equivalent operating pressure, and therefore consume a lot of power and generate a considerable amount of heat. Solenoid valves are preferably servo assisted to avoid this disadvantage however very small control apertures are therefore necessary which are susceptible to solids and particles in the medium. Blocked control apertures cause the valves to fail. Particle filters to protect the solenoid valves increase procurement and operating costs and must be taken into account from a TCO point of view. By contrast, the design of motorized diaphragm valves makes them insensitive to particles and solids in the medium. Even grains of sand and pieces of limescale in water pipes, for example, impair neither the function nor the tightness of the valves. The second advantage of the diaphragm valve is its design, which creates a hermetic separation between the actuator and the working medium without additional parts or gaskets. Of course, this is also possible in solenoid valves, but it increases their complexity and their cost.
The new motorized actuator is offered in two valve designs. The GEMÜ S680 diaphragm valve is available in PVC-U, reinforced PP and brass in sizes DN 10 and DN 15. Ratings are max. 6 bar, depending on nominal size and maximum permissible operating temperatures are 60°C. The operating time is between 0.5-1 sec., depending on size.
The GEMÜ S580 angle seat globe valve is also available in sizes DN 10 and DN 15. Reinforced PP and brass are available as valve body materials and the ratings as per the S680. The operating time is between 0.8-1 sec., depending on size.

Ball valves are subject to increased hygienic requirements in pharmaceutical production where valves typically have to exhibit minimum deadleg areas and smooth surfaces. Media remaining trapped in cavities of valves can contaminate medicines so cavity filling seats are incorporated to improve cleanability of residues and crystallising media.
The cavity filled seat of the 740 series from GEMÜ consists of two special half shells made from TFMTM. This innovative sealing material complies with the stringent requirements of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and conforms to FDA 21 CFR 177.1550. TFMTM is as resistant to chemicals and heat as conventional PTFE. It is also distinguished by a significantly smoother surface, a small pore volume, low cold flow properties, very low deformation under load and an almost universal chemical resistance. The internal surface finishes of the pipe connections and balls are mechanically polished and also electropolished to a low surface roughness of 0.6µm in the media wetted area which ensures good cleanability (CIP) and sterilisation (SIP) of the valves.
The spindle is triple sealed by pretensioned spring washers, V-rings and a conical gasket. The sealing package can be readjusted and requires little maintenance. The series is compliant with the TA Luft (German Clean Air Act). At the same time, this design ensures low friction as well as a long service life of the sealing system in conjunction with the finely machined spindle.
When open, the ball valves offer a good flow capability. The maximum permissible operating temperature is 180°C. In the case of steam, the maximum permissible steam pressure is 8 bar. The maximum permissible operating pressure is 63 bar for liquids in the nominal sizes DN 8 – 50 and 55 bar in the nominal sizes DN 65 – 100. Butt weld spigots to DIN 11850, DIN ISO 1127, ASME BPE as well as clamp connections in accordance with ASME BPE are available as standard connections. Other connections are available on request.
The GEMÜ 740 is a 3-piece ball valve with top flange. Besides the hand lever, pneumatic quarter turn actuators (GEMÜ 741) and motorized actuators (GEMÜ 748) can also be mounted. The actuators are compatible with other ball valve actuators such as the GEMÜ 751 and GEMÜ 738. Extensive instrumentation in the form of electrical position indicators, combi switchboxes, as well as positioners and process controllers is available for the pneumatic actuators.
The ball valves comply with the safety requirements of Annex I of the European Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) for fluids of groups 1 and 2. They are suitable for use in non-particulate, inert, corrosive, liquid, gaseous media and steam. Besides applications in the pharmaceutical industry, they are ideal for applications in the cosmetics sector, biotechnology, process engineering or the foodstuff industry.

Refractive index measurement makes a determination of the concentration or density of liquids possible. For many measuring tasks, refractometry is a standardized method introduces long ago, for instance for the determination of the concentration of sugar solutions. Basically, whenever a refractometer is used to measure in the laboratory, it is also suited for the same task in the process. Additionally, the process refractometer PIOX® R can be used for many applications where measurements were done by a different method up to now, or not at all.
PIOX® R measures with transmitted light. The refraction measurement occurs directly in the probe volume flow and not indirectly at the boundary layer. This method is especially reliable and not affected by deposits.

Flow monitor with high switch accuracy for fluids

Flow monitors in the series RVM/UM from Meister Stroemungstechnik are specially designed for applications in which the monitored flow limit value is much smaller than the normal operating flow. Thus, the smallest practicable switch-off point is 0.1 l/min, at a recommended maximum operating flow rate of 120 l/min. The device is specially constructed to attain a wide operating range at high switch accuracy and minimal pressure loss. At flow rates in the range of the desired limit value, the lower part of the measuring piston is closely fit into a cylindrically bored hole, so that the desired switch point can be precisely adjusted. The switch-off point, as well as the switch-on point is located in this range. As volume flow increases, the measuring piston emerges from the cylindrically bored hole and provides a much larger cross-sectional area for the flow medium. Through the installation of a spring, which returns the piston to its initial position, the flow monitor can be operated in any orientation. Electrical control is accomplished by equipping the piston with magnets, which energize a potential free, bistable reed contact housed separately along side the flow monitor body. The reed contact is completely sealed within the housing, whereby, depending on the connection used, (plug socket or cable), a protection class of IP65 or IP 67 may be attained. The compact design, robust construction, high pressure- and temperature resistance, allow these devices to be employed in the most demanding environments. In the standard version, the flow monitor has a maximum operating temperature of 120 °C; the high temperature version is employable to 160 °C. Maximum operating pressure is 250 bar and 300 bar respectively. Switch contacts are available as normally open or change over contacts. The switch points, specified by the customer, are factory set and tested, and can range from 0.1 l/min to 30 l/min. Switch points over 3 l/min have an accuracy of ±5 % of switch value. The accuracy under 3 l/min is ±0,1 l/min. The flow monitor is also available in an EX-version to comply with ATEX standards.

New Flow Monitors with bypass for large volume flow

Meister Stroemungstechnik presents a new series of float equipped flow monitors that is particularly suited for monitoring large volume flows. The series WBM-65 was developed for applications, where electrical limit monitoring of large volume flows is required, but monitoring by means of electronic measurement methods is not possible or too complicated. The WBM-65 devices use the mechanical float principle with all its benefits. They excel through rapid reaction times, reliability and robustness. For electrical monitoring the piston-shaped floats are equipped with magnets controlling a reed contact attached outside the housing. This contact is installed in a moulded switch-gear housing that ensures compliance with protection class IP65 or IP67, depending on the selected connection-type (connector or cable). The reed contact does not require an additional power supply. The integrated return spring allows installation of the device in any position. To minimize pressure loss, the device is equipped with an integrated bypass. Through this mean, the flow monitor has a maximum pressure loss of 0.3 bar for flow within its measuring range. At the same time, the compact design and robustness of the device is preserved. The standard version can be used up to 100°C, whereas the high-temperature version can be operated at up to 180°C. The burst strength depends on the flanges used. For high-pressure applications, a version with threaded connections is available on request. The switch point can be set within a range from 6 to 23m3/h. The value required by the customer is preset and tested on a test stand at the factory. In addition to the version for water and watery media, Meister also offers a version for oils. Besides the standard contacts, explosion-protected switching contacts according to ATEX are available.
