Online diagnostics and documentation for process automation infrastructure
In many conveyor systems, worn coatings cause unnecessary failures – whether in the food and beverage industry or in material handling. For this purpose, igus offers powder coatings made of high-performance polymers called iglidur coating, which make surfaces significantly more wear-resistant and durable. To make it easier for users to retrofit existing systems, the company now also offers coated plates and wire mesh that can be flexibly cut to size and installed. The range is complemented by IC-05PF, the first PTFE‑free coating, which is intended in particular for applications with high hygiene requirements.
200 ms response time for maximised process performance and reliability
At a specialist aerospace equipment manufacturer in Portsmouth, an initiative to reduce energy costs identified steam energy usage that could be optimised. Dart Aerospace involved Bürkert’s engineering team to develop a system that could automatically close steam flow during non-operational periods. This custom-developed flow control system was set live in January 2025 and achieved return on investment in a matter of months.

With the growing complexity of technical plants, demographic shifts in the workforce, and increasingly stringent regulatory requirements, traditional methods of risk assessment are reaching their limits. To meet these challenges, TÜV SÜD has developed a digital approach, called iaHAZOP, that builds on established risk assessment methods and extends them into the digital domain. The process industry now has a tool that redefines the state-of-the-art in technical risk management. Ethernet-APL enables fast, standardized Ethernet communication down to field level, even in hazardous areas. While the technology simplifies engineering, commissioning, and diagnostics, the real value lies in integrated solutions. With engineered, certified systems tailored to customer needs, operators benefit from reduced complexity, faster deployment, and higher system availability.
Upgrading pneumatic control valves with digital capabilities can enhance process quality and efficiency. Though a full digital control system redesign might be prohibitive, integrating digital positioners and process controllers can offer many of the same benefits without requiring a complete overhaul. Author: Kieran Bennett, Industry Manager, Food & Beverage at Bürkert.
Precise material analysis plays a central role in many industries - from the pharmaceutical and food industries to construction materials, biotechnology and environmental sciences. Whether for quality assurance or for predicting material behaviour, the precise characterisation of particles is crucial.
Experts have to collaborate effectively for process plants to be controlled reliably and economically. Safety, reliability, and efficiency must be guaranteed. This means operators of such plants are dependent on experienced project partners who not only supply individual products, but also have a deep understanding of the processes and requirements on-site and are able to use this knowledge to develop customized and long-term sustainable solutions.
The goal of the alliance of the companies Bizerba, FANUC, KILIVATIONS and Schmalz, announced at automatica 2025, is to drive the development and implementation of forward-looking automation solutions in a practical, innovative and customer-centric way
The evaluation of the installed base and its further use is a key decision point in modernization projects. At the same time, Ethernet-based, state-of-the-art field device technology should often be used. For the first time, a product study by Pepperl+Fuchs presented a solution for field devices modern Profinet over Ethernet-APL and those with Foundation Fieldbus H1 (FF-H1) interface at Hannover Messe 2025.

Industrial processes involving dry foodstuffs or animal feed can quickly create an explosive atmosphere by stirring up dust. Dust explosions present a huge risk not only to human life, but also in terms of destroyed equipment and unplanned production downtimes. Bormann & Neupert by BS&B offers efficient safety systems that effectively nip dust explosions in the bud or minimise their effects.

Supply chain optimization with wireless level measurement: The IIoT radar sensor measures fill levels in mobile tanks, containers and silos. The values are sent to the cloud so that they are available at any time and from anywhere. Close cooperation with users of the innovative sensor has led to further expansion of its fields of application since its market introduction three years ago.
A digital twin is not only the basis for a holistic view of the system and the individual processes. It is also the basis for automatic routines that react autonomously to changes in the process. It helps applications identify unwanted situations and the countermeasures to be taken often long before the plant comes to a standstill. Predictive maintenance is a key to the efficient operation of a process plant. However, digital processes are not a question of individual products or components, but require the seamless interaction of people and systems.
