The MicroDyne microdosing unit was developed by Alexanderwerk to meet the needs of R&D and scale up in one simple unit: processing extremely small quantities and processing imitates life production conditions. The MicroDyne is a module used in the company’s R&D machine (BT 120 Pharma) and production machines WP 120 Pharma. The module replaces the normal dosing module, apart from this, the compactor remains unchanged. This means that production parameters generated at laboratory scale in the early stages of development can be transferred to the production machine. It can be used to process extremely small quantities (20-80ml), which is not possible using conventional screw conveyors. MicroDyne uses a piston feed: the roller compactor is fed using a compressed-air piston (6 bar max.) in a cylinder. After it is filled with the product a flexible cap is fitted on the end of the cylinder to keep handling clean and safe (containment). The cylinders can be interchanged quickly and easily, meaning that several batches can be prepared and, then compacted one after the other. The compacted product can be removed as a flake immediately after leaving the compactor.
