Each machine in your inventory has a characteristic vibration pattern. Vibration behavior changes over time due to wear or damage. The VIM series of vibration sensors from Pepperl+Fuchs can monitor this behavior in real time, even in the presence of potentially explosive atmospheres.

Avoiding downtimes

Vibrations monitor the characteristic quality condition of a machine in situations where gears, shafts, and other components are rotated by motors. A fully functional machine is characterized by minimal vibration behavior, since the smooth concentric run is not disturbed by any imbalances. However, all moving parts are subject to wear and tear from abrasion. This wear and tear will vary over time depending on the degree of utilization or environmental influences. For example, temperature changes affect the quality of lubricants. The impacts of material fatigue or contamination are gradual changes that can lead to a complete failure of the machine. Pepperl+Fuchs vibration sensors can be used to continuously monitor this deterioration, allowing for the machine servicing to be planned in good time.

The VIM6 and VIM8 series have been developed to enable condition monitoring even in potentially explosive atmospheres. The standard versions can be used for Zone 2/22, Zone 1/21, or hazardous (classified) location Division 2. These have approvals for various protection methods, including Ex d/t, Ex e/t and Ex i, ensuring that you will find the right vibration sensor for the requirements of these safety concepts.
